Thanks a lot for your comment, bro :D I put the question mark there to try to connect the two doors together. Also, it symbolizes for questioning, thinking -> the process of choosing this door instead of the other. Btw, two doors symbolizes for choices in life; you know, ppl do make choices. And what choice they choose, decide a lot of things.
About the Egyptian eye symbol, because of the nature of the assignment, I have to put a symbol in the picture. However, by doing that, I do want to set a stage, a set-up to lead the viewer to the message I try to deliver. Like you say, it does limit the viewer's iamgination but you know, I can't have the best of both world...Btw, it's the symbol of Sun God, which means light, and the light also coming out from behind the door....They kind of go together. Ironically, turn out, not a lot of ppl know of that symbol, even all of my American classmate...It's struck me by surprised but I kind of like it, it leaves more room for the viewer to interpret the piece (like rongvang's opions)
Although I do want to set up a one-way thinking in the piece, but a lot of factors affect. However, because of that, it leaves enough room for the viewer to interpret the piece. I think it's quite a balance compromise b/t the artist's intention and the viewer's opions.
Once again, thanks a lot, BZ :D
To rongvang, there's no right or wrong guess. Just what you think and feel when look at the art work. And what you feel different than others, also different from time to time when u look at it. Sometimes, what you think and feel totally different than from the artist's intention. However, the succesful of an aritist is that he creates sth that stirs up the curiosity in the viewer, sth that keeps the viewer w/ the piece, make the viewer think and dig down inside the piece, rather than just the attraction on the surface. And that's what Im try to get into all of my art works :)
Without that weird question mark, this 'd be the best drawing I've seen on zidean. There's a surreal quality about it that I like. I love the texture and shading as well as the weird composition.
However, I'm not very fond of the Egyptian eye symbol. I think it limits the audience's imagination instead of inviting them to explore what's behind the door. The way it was drawn and its placement really disturb me.
You should try to make an etching out of this drawing and explore the various possibilities the medium brings. Your art reminds me of Frida Kahlo's, which is very crude but free and original. Also, look up Kiki Smith. You will love her works.
Good luck and keep up good work.
BZ
Good luck, get an A for your final.
Final à, grade A+ nha :)
